We may complain that we do not have reading habits and book culture is dying... but Pakistan always had people who spent their lives selling books on sidewalks of our busy markets.... from Anarkali Lahore to Sadar baazar Karachi....used books got their appreciation there...and some time book lovers found rare additions too.
Since more easy imports this activity turned in to a more organized version of book buying and selling.... A good example is" Readings" in Lahore, where you can get variety of books on discounts because they were used once....and for most that's not a hard bargain as long it encourages reading habits...
Readings book store also encourages people to relax and brows which made it more inviting...and now even some older book shops are adapting this style... in a place where libraries are limited to chosen few.... it is very welcome trend, we wish it to expand more.
Here we plan to talk about books written in Pakistan, By a Pakistani writer or about publications which represent Pakistani perspective . You can find reviews of books in Urdu or English both... We will talk about it all... from reading and writing to publishing...and from new ideas to changing culture of books in Pakistan.

i adore how Readings allows you to sit back and actually flip through the books--elsewhere the books are on display--makes me feel like I am in a museum and not a bookstore!!
ReplyDeleteYeah Reading is quite good on this matter, if you step in any other bookshop the sales or in charge person expects you that you are going to tell the name of the book, purchase it and ta ta bye bye!
